Tom is a founding Director and Chairman of Edge Environment. Tom came to Edge Environment from BRANZ where he developed the Sustainable Built Environment Team in Australia and previously from the Timber Industry where he developed and ran the Sustainability Strategy for the Australian Timber Industry and represented timber issues in standards and building code issues includes the development of AccuRate. Tom has been working with government and industry on energy efficiency and sustainability projects for over a decade and has good working relationships across the building industry, governments and internationally.
Tom has a broad range of experience working on built environment projects, from market research and development, policy and regulation, design projects, through to building projects. Tom’s expertise is in conducting and leading research projects that result in practical outcomes for industry and government. Tom’s most recent and notable experience is the development of the Building Resilience Rating Tool, a tool that calculates the resilience of homes against natural hazards for the Insurance Industry. Tom has also started an initiative called BUILD 1000, to build 1000 leading practice energy efficient, resilient and affordable homes in Australia.
